Description
The Lynches is a late 17th-century house, with later alterations, located on the west side of the B4367 in Clungunford. The house is timber-framed with lath and plaster infill, but has been partly rebuilt in limestone rubble and rendered. The roof is corrugated iron, and there are large brick lateral stacks at the rear. The three bays are aligned east-west and face south. The house has one storey and an attic, featuring three 20th-century casement windows and a central gabled dormer. A 20th-century doorway with a segmental pointed head is located on the left side. Exposed timber framing is visible in the right-hand (east) gable, comprising three square panels to the eaves, and straight tension braces.
Inside, the central room contains an open fireplace with a chamfered and stopped bressumer and a bread oven. The interior also displays chamfered and stopped spine beams, and exposed timber cross-frames. A timber-framed partition in the western bay separates the staircase from the pantry. Opposed entrances at the east end of the western bay create a through-passage. The roof features interrupted-tie-beam trusses.
