Service Block And Attached Wall Approximately 10 Metres To South East Of Whitton Hall

This is a service block, now used as a store, with attached walls, dating from the early 18th century. It stands approximately 10 metres to the south-east of Whitton Hall. The building is constructed of red brick with a slate roof. It is two storeys high with a gable-lit attic. A dentil brick eaves cornice runs along the top, and the gable ends are finished with parapets. A central brick stack rises from the ridge.

The south-west front features six windows. These are mostly 2-light wooden casements with small panes and segmental heads. The second window from the left on the first floor is blocked. The left-hand ground-floor window has been reduced to a single light, with the second from the left altered to a single light as well. A painted imitation window is on the right-hand ground floor. A segmental-headed boarded door is situated to the right. Two wooden forecourt gate posts, with chamfered corners and moulded tops, are positioned alongside a gate to the right. A curved red brick wall with stone quoins and coping adjoins the service block to the left, linking it to Whitton Hall. It incorporates a boarded door on its right side.

The left-hand gable end features a segmental-headed 2-light casement and a segmental-headed boarded door. A pent-roofed wooden bellcote is positioned to the right of the attic window. The right-hand gable end has a segmental-headed 2-light attic casement, a 3-light first-floor casement to the right, and a 3-light ground-floor casement. An inserted boarded door is on the right side, with a stone mounting block adjoining to the left, the left-hand corner rising to first-floor height. A piece of garden wall, constructed of red brick with stone coping, adjoins to the right, with a boarded door set off-centre to the left and a ramped return to the rear.

The interior of the ground floor on the north-west side contains a former dairy with low shelves supported by segmental brick arches and a lead-lined cooling tank, which may have been part of a former brewing apparatus. A possible former brewhouse, in the second ground-floor room from the north-west, contains pairs of ogee-stopped spine beams, a depressed-arched open fireplace, and a possible brewing or washing copper with a hood. A staircase from the 18th century is also present. The roof features trusses with elbowed principals resting on tie- and floor-beams, short spurs to wall-plates, and collars, with pairs of purlins. The south-east end of the block is a small cottage. The service block encloses one side of the forecourt to Whitton Hall and stands opposite the stable block.
