Description
New Buildings Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse constructed of red brick with stone dressings and an old tile roof, which is pyramidal over the end pavilions. It is designed in the Neo-Palladian style and is one room deep with higher projecting square end pavilions, standing three storeys tall.
The building features a plinth, a ground floor impost band, and a plat band between the first and second floors. There is a dentil brick eaves cornice, with a ridge stack off-centre to the right and an end stack to the left, creating a 1:3:1 bay rhythm. The windows are segmental headed, fitted with 19th-century wooden casements and 20th-century tiled cills. A large central blocked round arch is adorned with a raised architrave, impost blocks, and a keystone. The pavilions have ground floor recessed blind round arches, also with raised architraves, impost blocks, and keystones. The main entrance is located at the rear and features a pair of 20th-century segmental headed glazed doors. There are some 19th and 20th-century additions to the rear.
Inside, the first floor is suspended from arch braces. This farmhouse was reportedly built to obstruct the view from Kilsall Hall.
