Barn Approximately 20 Metres North Of Binweston Farmhouse

This is a barn located approximately 20 meters north of Binweston Farmhouse. It likely dates from the 17th century and was extended in the early 18th century, with later alterations. The structure features a weatherboarded timber frame with red brick in English bond on the back wall, right gable end, and rear range, topped with slate roofs. The original barn consists of five framed bays, with a two-bay range added to the rear in the early 18th century, creating an L-shaped plan.

The barn has two levels, with an eaves hatch to the left of center, a 20th-century half-glazed door, and a stable door to the left. There is a wide inserted cart entrance in the fourth bay from the left, with a door at the far right. Inside, the timber frame is visible, featuring square panels that have been much altered, although some retain original woven and wattle and daub infill, including in cross-partitions. The roof of the main range has short straight tension braces from the wall-posts to the tie beams, which include a mix of Queen-struts and raking struts to the principal rafters, along with double purlins. An unusual feature is the paired trusses in the first and third bays from the left. There are lofts on two levels, except above the cart entrance, and the collar and tie beam roof in the 18th-century range includes vertical and raking struts.
