Description
Ticklerton War Memorial is a structure commemorating the men from Eaton-Under-Heywood who served in the First World War, unveiled in April 1920. The memorial features a stepped square plinth made of Grinshill sandstone, with a pedestal designed like a Roman funerary monument, topped by a tapering obelisk that has a pointed summit. It is surrounded by a double railed post and rail fence.
On the front of the pedestal, there is an inscription that reads: "THIS OBELISK IS ERECTED IN HONOUR OF THE MEN FROM EATON-UNDER-HEYWOOD WHO SERVED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918." Flanking the obelisk are bronze commemorative plaques on low inclined pedestals, each inscribed at the top with "THE WAR MEMORIAL," followed by a list of names that includes rank and sometimes regiment.
