13/40 Ye Olde Vaults Inn -

GV II

House, now inn. Late C15 or early C16, much re-modelled late C18/early C19 with later additions and alterations. Timber frame concealed by rendered brick facade, slate roof and internal red brick end stacks. 3 storeys, moulded wooden eaves cornice; 3-window front, glazing bar sashes in moulded stone surrounds with eared architraves and small keystones; C19 inn front much renewed with C20 doors to round-arched passageway on left and entrance to right of centre, elliptical arches flanking entrance have C20 fixed-light windows. Gabled range to rear rendered on left but fragmentary square panels exposed to right. In passageway to King's Head Inn (q.v.) square panels to right gable end and carved bracket for former jetty to front are visible.
