Description
The Boar's Head Inn is a mid-19th century building that was re-fronted and heightened from an earlier structure, with later additions and alterations. It features a rendered timber frame and brick construction, topped with a slate roof that has a red brick ridge stack on the left and an internal end stack on the right. The original house likely consisted of three aligned bays at the front, with a long range extending at right angles to the rear. The front was re-faced in the 18th century and remodelled in the mid-19th century.
The inn stands three storeys tall and has a corbelled eaves cornice. The second floor includes three four-paned sash windows set in moulded surrounds, with a moulded cill band that actually serves as the eaves cornice of the 18th-century house, flanked by stone kneelers. The first floor on the right features a twin double-paned sash window in a moulded surround, while the inn front to the right showcases Gothic leaf carvings in the spandrels of the windows and double four-panel doors topped with a wide rectangular overlight. There is a wide, high passageway to the left, complete with spur stones.
At the rear on the right, there is a long, low two-storey range, rendered over timber frame and also covered with a slate roof. This section includes a small gable on the left featuring a Venetian window with late 19th-century stained glass, a tall red brick ridge stack near the centre, and a large tapering external stack on the left. The interior has not been inspected but is expected to be of interest.
