Description
No. 37 Broad Street is a house dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of brick with a Welsh slate roof and features brick end stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and is symmetrical, standing three storeys tall with a cellar. The façade has a five-window range, with 6/6 sash windows that have broad glazing bars and cases, all set under gauged brick flat arches. Above the soffited eaves, there are 2-light casements in broad frames, complemented by rusticated pilasters.
The central entrance showcases a six-fielded panel door with an ornamental fanlight, situated beneath an entablature on fluted pilasters. This entrance is flanked by pairs of 6/6 sash windows. To the right, a passage leads to the rear, featuring a plank door in a round-headed case with a grooved panel.
Inside, the hall is adorned with 17th-century panelling. There is a dogleg staircase with a moulded rail and turned balusters, as well as fireplaces decorated with delft tiles and a carved frieze. The ceilings boast decorative plasterwork.
