Description
This barn, located approximately 20 meters east of the Old Rectory in Habberley, is likely from the early to mid-17th century. It features a timber-framed structure, with sections having painted brick infill and others being weatherboarded, all set on a rubblestone plinth. The roof is made of corrugated iron. The interior is open to the roof, except for a loft over the north and south bays. The framing consists of rectangular panels with two sections extending from the cill to the wall-plate, and long straight tension braces. There are wide garage doors in the second bay from the north, along with scattered stable doors and eaves hatches. The roof structure is a Queen-post design with five bays, and one truss includes re-used curved braces from the tie beam. This barn is probably the former tithe barn of the adjacent Old Rectory and is included for its group value.
