Description
The archway, built around 1700, is located approximately one metre southeast of Brand Hall. It is constructed of red brick with grey sandstone ashlar dressings. The structure features piers with plinths, chamfered quoins, and impost bands leading to an elliptical arch, topped with an open triangular pediment. This archway is one of a pair that flank the front of Brand Hall and marks the line of the carriage drive in front of the house. It may have once been part of a larger forecourt arrangement. Prior to the early 19th-century additions to the house, the archways would have appeared more detached from the main building, possibly connected by quadrant link walls. According to an old listing description from 1959, the arches once contained ornamental lion gates, which were largely obscured by climbing plants during a survey in July 1986.
