Description
22 and 23 Claremont Hill is a pair of houses with an 18th-century frontage that conceals a 16th-century building. The structure is made of brick over a timber frame and features a plain tiled roof. It has two storeys and a two-window range, with paired doorways on the right and two-pane sash windows that have segmentally-arched heads. The roof includes three gabled dormers and a central stack. The side elevation reveals exposed timber framing, showcasing at least two phases of construction, with the timbering of a former roofline clearly visible. The ground floor has close studding on a stone plinth, and there is a moulded bressumer beam supporting the jettied first floor, which is also close-studded and features ogee-arched bracing. Below the original gable line, there is a four-light casement window. The building has paired brick wings that extend beyond later additions.
