Description

This is a pair of houses located on Claremont Hill in Shrewsbury, built in the mid-18th century. The houses are constructed of brick with a plain tiled roof. They are three stories high and each has a four-window front. The left side of each house has a doorway flanked by two sash windows, while the right side features an inserted shop front with a fascia and console brackets. The sash windows have flat-arched gauged brick surrounds. A moulded modillion eaves cornice runs along the top of the building, above which is a parapet concealing dormer windows in the attic. Chimneys are located at each end of the building. A rainwater head dated 1764 is positioned centrally. The interiors retain original staircases, characterized by three turned balusters per tread and scrolled tread ends.
