Description

Drayton House is a house dating from around 1800, located on the north-east side of Saint Mary’s Street in Market Drayton. It is constructed primarily of red brick with a cement-rendered plinth and a rendered gable end. The roof is covered in plain tiles. The house has two storeys and a gable-lit attic space above a basement level. A plat band runs above each storey, and the gable ends have parapets with moulded stone kneelers. Integral rendered brick end stacks are present.

The front elevation features three bays. The windows are 16-pane glazing bar sashes with stone sills and slightly-segmental gauged heads. A central first-floor window is a painted imitation sash. Barred windows are situated in the basement. The central front door has six raised and fielded panels, with the top two panels glazed, and is surrounded by a reeded architrave with fleurons at the corners, topped with a flat hood. Three stone steps lead to the front door, with 20th-century wrought-iron railings. A passageway to the left has a segmental-headed 4-panelled door, and a round arch is visible within, beneath a first-floor fireplace. The interior was not inspected, but panelled window shutters were noted.
