Description

This milestone, located on the east side of the B5069 by a gateway north of Oldport, is part of Thomas Telford's Holyhead Road and dates from 1826-1827. It is made of red Wharf Bay limestone with a cast iron panel. The milestone has a tapered design that narrows towards the top, which culminates in a pointed head. The recessed cast iron panel on the front displays the following inscription: HOLY-/ HEAD/ 88 - M/ SALOP/ 18 M - 6 F.
