Description

This is a wall located approximately 10 metres north of the byre with hayloft at Tong Norton Farm, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of squared and coursed sandstone, measuring about 50 metres long and 1.5 metres high, and it curves around to the farm entrance on the west side. The wall features chamfered coping and has square intermediate and end piers topped with pyramidal coping. It consists of six bays, with the second and fifth bays recessed, while the first, third, fourth, and sixth bays have recessed Latin crosses flanked by recessed Maltese crosses. The design of the wall shows many similarities to other structures in the area associated with the Durants of Tong Castle, such as the north gates and gate piers, Convent Lodge, and the wall with a pulpit to the east of Convent Lodge.
