Description

This wall, located approximately 1.25 metres north of The Riding Stables in Thornton Dale, dates from the late 18th century and was partly rebuilt in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble and features ashlar coping. The wall stands about 0.75 metres high and is ramped up twice to heights of approximately 3.5 and 4.0 metres. To the left, there is a plank door beneath a tripartite keyed lintel. The wall includes pilaster piers and flat coping, as well as a rebuilt square pier with a pyramidal cap at the yard entrance. This structure is included for its group value with The Hall.
