Description
Thornton Bridge is a bridge located in Thornton Dale, North Yorkshire, dating from the early to mid-18th century, with some widening and partial rebuilding occurring in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of dressed sandstone and limestone and features three arches, one of which spans a diverted millstream.
On the upstream side, there are two elliptical arches made of alternately long and short chamfered voussoirs, which are separated by a dwarf buttress pier. The semicircular arch for the millstream on the right has been rebuilt. The downstream side consists of semicircular arches made of rusticated voussoirs. Both sides of the bridge have a plain parapet with cambered coping and cylindrical, domed piers at each end.
