Description

The walls forming the northern, eastern, and western sides of the car park in Thornton Dale, off Maltongate, are Grade II listed and are believed to date back to the 16th century, with some later repairs. The inner side features red and blue brick laid in stretcher bond, while the outer side is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble, resting on a plinth. There are sandstone piers and coping that have been renewed in places. The walls stand approximately 3 metres high and are ramped up in certain areas. Originally, these walls enclosed the walled garden of The Hall.
