Description
This building is an attached cottage to the rear of No. 23 Lower Broad Street in Ludlow. It dates from the 18th century but has origins in the 17th century and has undergone alterations in the 20th century. The structure is primarily made of brick, with timber framing and coursed rubble at the rear, topped by a plain-tile roof and featuring a brick stack at the rear. The building has an L-shaped plan with a wing extending to the rear. It stands two stories high with an attic, and there is an 18th-century brick band running across the front.
On the ground floor, there is a central door flanked by canted bays, which are mostly from the 20th century, all covered by a pentice roof. To the far right, a part-glazed door leads to a passageway that connects to the cottage, which has a 20th-century door and windows. An earlier wood mullioned window with leaded lights is located in the attic gable, and massive purlins are visible inside. The rear of No. 23 features box framing above the passageway, along with a 20th-century, two-story extension. The interiors are reputed to contain timber framing.
