Description
The right-hand gatepier to the west of the East Lodge at Downton Hall is a gatepier dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and is part of a pair of gatepiers. The gatepier features unchamfered rusticated stone shafts with recessed corners, which are set on a two-tier plinth with a cyma recta moulding. It has a deep moulded cornice with two-stage blocking courses, topped with ball finials. The gates are now missing, and this gatepier serves as the eastern entrance to Downton Hall.
