Description
The left-hand gatepier to the west of the east lodge to Downton Hall is a gatepier dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is made of sandstone ashlar and stands as a freestanding gatepier of a pair. The gatepier features unchamfered rusticated stone shafts with recessed corners, which are set on a two-tier plinth with a cyma recta moulding. It has a deep moulded cornice with two-stage blocking courses, topped with ball finials. The gates are currently missing. This gatepier is part of the gateway to Downton Hall from the east.
