Description

The pair of gate piers located in the garden east of Downham Hall dates to around 1600 and is constructed from sandstone ashlar. Each pier features a fluted shaft, a foliated neck, and an egg-and-dart abacus. These columns are believed to have been part of the doorcase from a house that once stood on the site of Downham Hall, with some elements incorporated into the current structure.
