Description
The stables and coach house, located northeast of Downham Hall, were built in 1857. They are constructed from squared sandstone and topped with a slate roof. The building is two storeys tall and has an L-shaped plan, with the main facades meeting at an inner angle. The north facade features three bays with pilaster strips, and the central bay projects outward, also adorned with pilaster strips. This central bay includes a pediment with mutules, which also support a stone gutter on both facades. The windows on both facades are sash style with glazing bars and plain stone surrounds. Inside the pediment, there is a small oculus. The central bay of the north facade has a wide entrance with an elliptical arch, and the year '1857' is inscribed on the keystone. The west facade has one window to the right on the ground floor and three windows on the first floor, along with two adjoining wide entrances featuring elliptical arches. Additionally, there is a chimney and external stone steps on the north gable.
