Description

Number 2 and the adjoining smithy is a house and smithy built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and a gable-lit attic, with a plinth, a plat band, and a dentil brick eaves cornice. At the rear left, there is a stack with two diagonal brick shafts. The front has two windows; the first-floor windows are late 19th-century wooden cross casements, while the ground-floor windows are glazing bar sashes, both with chamfered reveals and segmental gauged heads. The central entrance features a four flush-panelled door with chamfered reveals and a three-part segmental-headed overlight.

To the left, there is a one-storey smithy that has a dentil brick eaves cornice and verge, an integral brick end stack to the left, and a brick stack at the rear. The smithy has a three-light window to the left with chamfered reveals and a segmental head, and a two-leaf boarded door to the right, also with chamfered reveals and a segmental head. Inside the smithy, there are two brick hearths; the rear hearth retains a large leather bellows, while the left hearth has a cast iron ash-cover on the outside wall. The interior also includes tool racks, benches, and wooden blocks, as well as a tie-beam roof truss with raking queen struts.
