Description
Number 3 is an entrance lodge dating from the early 19th century, with some minor later alterations. It is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble and features a shallow pyramidal slate roof with a central red brick stack that has four attached and rebated shafts topped with dentilled capping. The building has a square plan and stands two storeys high, with two windows. The 19th-century multi-paned casements include ground floor windows that are mullioned and transomed with segmental heads, positioned to the left and right of a central timber porch that has plain pilasters and a pediment, leading to a contemporary boarded door. The left wall mirrors this fenestration pattern, although the ground-floor windows and the upper right window are blind. The right wall has two windows on each floor, flanking a blind or infilled segmental-headed doorway.
Attached to the lodge is a wall that may be slightly later in date, made of roughly coursed limestone rubble with ashlar coping that ramps up to a gate pier. The gate pier has concrete blocks replacing the regularly coursed limestone rubble but retains its ashlar capping, which is topped with a ball finial. There is a painted wrought-iron gate from the 19th century.
