Description

Mill Farmhouse, originally Cruckmeole Mill, is mainly an 18th-century building, although it incorporates parts of an earlier structure, with later additions and alterations. It is a red brick building, with yellow brick headers and grey brick voussoirs above the window and door openings of the mill section. The roof is covered in concrete tiles, with ridge and end stacks.

The house has an L-shaped layout, with the mill set at right angles to the north-east. The two-storey house has a third storey to the rear range and a dentilled eaves cornice. The front of the house has a three-window facade. The upper floor has sliding sash windows with glazing bars and the ground floor has three-light casements from the late 19th century, all with gauged heads. A six-panel door with a fanlight is centrally positioned, sheltered by a cast-iron trellised porch.

The mill section has three levels and carries the dentilled eaves up around the front gable. It has segmental-headed windows with cast-iron glazing bars, flanking the doors, also with segmental heads, on the ground and first floors. A gabled wooden projection indicates the former hoist location. Although the original mill machinery is no longer present, the position of the former wheel can still be seen against the right-hand return wall.

Inside the house, the central bay of the rear range is timber-framed and has chamfered spine beams and joists with ogee stops on the ground floor. A mill was first recorded on the site in 1308.
