Description
Home Farmhouse is probably of late 15th or 16th century origin, with alterations from the 17th century and remodelling in the mid- to late 19th century. The exterior is painted brick and pebbledash, which hides an underlying timber frame, with a plain tile roof. The building has an irregular plan, likely originating as an open hall with a cross-wing to the east. It has two storeys and attics; the front features three gables, one to the left and two projecting to the right. The small central gable was formerly a two-storey porch. All gables have carved bargeboards and pointed finials. There are 1:1:1 windows, with late 19th century casements, and contemporary attic windows in two of the principal gables. The entrance is through a late 19th century gabled brick porch projecting from the left-hand corner, featuring a 17th century nail-studded door (which is not in its original position). Reddish-brown brick lateral stacks are located at the right-hand end and behind to the left, with a mid-20th century brown brick stack in the roof slope to the centre. Projecting purlin ends and wall plates are visible on the gables, and an exposed wall post is visible behind the left-hand gable. The ground floor has massive cross-beamed ceilings.
