Description

The grotto, located approximately 35 metres to the north-west of Woodlands Farmhouse, is likely from the late 18th century. It is constructed from dressed breccia and red sandstone and is covered by an earth mound at the rear. The entrance features a round arch with voussoirs and shell-enriched imposts, flanked by lancet-type openings. The gable is parapeted and has a round-arched opening at the apex. Inside, the grotto has a semi-circular domed ceiling with remnants of shell decoration and a continuous bench with diagonally-laid rustic backing against the wall behind. The grotto is situated within the immediate grounds of Woodlands Farmhouse.
