Description

The grotto, located approximately 40 metres south-south-east of Langton Grove, is a garden feature from the early 19th century that incorporates medieval ecclesiastical materials. It is constructed from ashlar, brick, and flint and is a single storey in height. The structure features a round-topped wall made of flint, into which a re-used arch is set. This arch consists of worked stone of indeterminate origin and was not originally designed to form an arch. The rear wall is made of brick and includes a sloping buttress. The grotto is part of a group that includes Langton Grove and another nearby grotto.
