CHILD'S ERCALL C.P. VILLAGE ROAD (north side) SJ 62 NE 7/28 Sundial approx. 5 metres. - to south of Church of Saint Michael

Sundial. Dated 1773. Dressed red sandstone. Pair of circular steps, chamfered circular base, tapered shaft with square base and octagonal neck, and lumpy square dial plate with gnomon, inscribed: "1773/J : Voin " (?). Partly illegible at time of survey (March 1986. The dial plate may be a later addition to an earlier sundial. The circular steps may be the remains of a former churchyard cross. D.H.S.
