Description
Nos 9 and 9A are a pair of cottages located in Eaton Upon Tern, dating from the mid-to-late 18th century. They are constructed of red brick, sitting on a red sandstone rubble plinth on the right side, and feature a plain tile roof. The cottages are two storeys high and have a plat band and a dentil brick eaves cornice. There is an off-centre brick ridge stack to the left and integral brick end stacks. The front has five windows, which are two-light wooden casements with segmental heads on the ground floor. Between the first and second windows from the right, there is a segmental headed boarded door. The second window from the left is a blocked former doorway, indicated by straight joints beneath it. The cottages were built in at least three stages, with the left-hand part, which lacks the plat band, likely being the most recent addition. Adjacent to the cottages is the remains of a memorial featuring a brick arch, inscribed with "IN GRATEFUL/REMEMBRANCE OF/JOHN HEATLEY/APRIL 17 1927".
