SO5170 Outbuilding to south-west of Grove 482-1/14/20 Farmhouse

GV II

Stables and cartshed, now byre and store. C18. Brick with full-height inset panels to sides and rear, dentil course eaves, and hipped tile roof. T-shaped plan of 3-bay stables with hay loft over, cross wing with cart-shed and stalls. EXTERIOR: front faces south with stables to left with 2 oak-framed pitching holes over ground-floor openings. Plank door to right and 2-leaf plank door under brick segmental-arched opening to left return side. Cartshed in projecting cross wing to right: 2 openings over ground-level doorways, brick segmental-arched cartshed entrance to left with C20 garage doors inserted in opening, to right is part bricked-up hackney-stable entrance with timber lintel. INTERIOR: unchamfered bridging beams to loft floors. Single trenched purlin roofs with king-post trusses.
