Description

This building is an outbuilding located to the south-west of Grove Farmhouse, dating from the 18th century. It was originally designed as stables and a cartshed, but is now used as a byre and store. The structure is made of brick and features full-height inset panels on the sides and rear, a dentil course at the eaves, and a hipped tile roof. It has a T-shaped plan consisting of three bays for stabling with a hay loft above, and a cross wing that includes a cartshed and stalls.

The exterior faces south, with the stables on the left side. There are two oak-framed pitching holes above the ground-floor openings. To the right, there is a plank door, and to the left, a two-leaf plank door is set under a brick segmental-arched opening on the left return side. The cartshed is located in the projecting cross wing to the right, featuring two openings above ground-level doorways. There is a brick segmental-arched entrance to the cartshed on the left, which has had 20th-century garage doors inserted. To the right, there is a partially bricked-up entrance for a hackney stable with a timber lintel.

Inside, the building has unchamfered bridging beams supporting the loft floors, and the roof structure consists of single trenched purlins with king-post trusses.
