Description
No. 7 Ashford Bowdler is a house dating from the 17th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill set on a stone rubble plinth, topped with a thatched roof. The building has a stepped brick gable-end stack with a cogged brick cap and a smaller brick stack at the opposite gable end. It consists of two framed bays, with 19th and 20th-century extensions at each end.
The front of the house faces the garden (south) and has one restored casement window in each framed bay, along with a two-light attic casement beneath a bay-width eyebrow within the raised thatch eaves. To the right of the left bay, there is a glazed panelled door. The square framing includes a girding beam, wall plate, and studs with mid rails. There is a lean-to extension with a tiled roof to the right, featuring a plain boarded door. The right and left gable end returns show end trusses with raking struts over a double collar, with vertical struts partly obscured by the chimney stacks and tiled extension.
At the rear, there are restored 20th-century casements set in each bay of square framing, three panels high.
Inside, the house has chamfered bridging beams in each bay, featuring ogee and plain chamfer stops, and a single trenched purlin roof.
