Description
This building, located to the rear of Number 1A on Horsefair in Shrewsbury, is a Grade II listed warehouse from the early 17th century. Its original use is unknown, but it is believed to have been non-domestic, possibly for agricultural or storage purposes. The structure is timber-framed with a plain tiled roof and consists of two storeys that are undivided internally on each floor.
The timber framing features square panels with some tension bracing and arch bracing in the gable walls. The building has five bays, and the roof trusses show signs of alterations, likely related to raising the roof height. The tie beams are positioned below the wall plate and are connected to a collar by a raking brace, which is also braced to the wall plate. There are two purlins on each side and wind braces. While there is little structural evidence indicating the original use of the building, the lack of a stack and its location behind the main building line suggest it was originally intended as a service building.
