Description
This is an outbuilding, originally a smithy and now used as a store, located about 8 yards south-west of White Rails. It likely dates from the 18th century. The structure features a plinth made of sandstone rubble and a timber-frame with brick infill. It has a half-hipped roof covered with sandstone slate. The building has a rectangular two-bay plan oriented north/south and is a single storey. The east elevation includes a pair of shuttered openings, with one on each side of ledged two-leaved doors. The frame consists of two square panels high from the plinth to the wall-plate, with angle struts connecting the corner posts to the ties and wall-plates. This outbuilding is included for its group value, although White Rails itself is not listed.
