Description
Lower House Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the early 17th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and timber-frame with brick infill, and features graduated stone slate roofs along with brick and sandstone rubble stacks. The building has a roughly rectangular plan oriented north to south and stands two storeys tall.
The east elevation displays a symmetrical arrangement of windows with three sections, featuring 2-light early 20th-century casements on the first floor and 3-light contemporary glazing bar casements on the ground floor. The elevation is topped with three unequal gables, with the outer two showcasing an exposed timber-framed pattern that includes quadrant braces. The left gable is made of brick and painted to resemble timber. There is an entry on the left side of the central gable, accessed through a six-panelled door.
Inside, the farmhouse is noted for its heavy ceiling beams. The gables are adorned with decorative bargeboards that include pendants. Lower House Farmhouse was previously known as Eyon's Farmhouse.
