Description
Porch House is a house that likely dates from the early to mid-18th century and was altered and extended in the early 20th century. It is constructed of brick and features hipped swept slate roofs with end stacks. The building has a square plan measuring five by four bays, with one-bay pavilions that project at each corner of the northwest-facing entrance front. It is two storeys high and has a moulded wooden eaves cornice, along with glazing bar sash windows. Steps rise from either side to a mid-20th century balustrade in front of a central sandstone porch, which has an ogee-head and an early 20th century one-panel door. The pavilions are adorned with 4-light mullioned windows. On the garden front, there are 3-light and cross-casement windows, and a verandah, likely from the early 20th century, is located on the south side. This substantial 18th-century house is notable for its interesting outline and plan, enhanced by the angle pavilions.
