Description
The Dairy is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century. It is timber-framed with painted brick and plaster infill, topped with tiled roofs. The building has two-and-a-half bays and is aligned east to west, featuring a lobby-entry on the north side. It stands two storeys high. The framing consists of small square panels, with two panels extending from the cill to the girding beam and another two from the girding beam to the wall-plate, supported by short tension braces to the girding beam. There is a narrower chimney bay, and the end trusses have two collars with four and two struts, along with two pairs of purlins. The north elevation displays irregular window arrangements, featuring 20th-century casements—one plus two on the first floor and five on the ground floor, with the smaller windows located at the outer and central positions. A prominent feature of the house is a large rubble central stack that has three conjoined diagonally-set shafts.
