Houses. Later C19. Brick; ashlar sandstone detailing; hipped turnerized slate roof; 3 brick stacks to front; brick stacks to rear. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and cellar; 6-window range: 2/2 sashes flanked by paired 2/2 sashes; stone arched lintels with keyblocks; 2/2 French windows with moulded stone lintels; canted bays with 1/1: 2/2: 1/1 casements, and altered mutilated balustrades over; joined by cast-iron balcony, on scrolled brackets. Left returned sides: 3, 2/2 sashes; bracketed eaves. Central entrances: part-glazed panelled doors and sidelights; under stone entablatures on Tuscan columns, flanked by 2/2 casements; rusticated quoins. Rear: 2 buttress stacks; various 2/2, and 3/3 sashes. INTERIOR: No.48: dogleg staircase with cast-iron tendril balusters, to 1st floor; winder stair to attic; winder stair to rear. Attic: margin-glazed stairwell light; two 4-panel doors. 1st floor (rear): 4-panel doors; late C19 fireplace; picture-rail. 1st floor (front): C19 fireplaces; ceiling cornice; picture-rail; 4-panel doors with architraves. Ground floor: 4 fielded-panel doors with architraves; ceiling cornices and roses; picture-rail; C19 fireplace; C19 marble fire surround with inserted tiled grate; skirtings. Cellar: 4-panel door; stone and brick-lined; brick floor; plank door; wine cellar; arched stack base.
