Description

Barton Manor is a house dating from the early 18th century, with a 17th-century wing. The building features painted brickwork on the ground floor and has a plain tile roof added in the 20th century, along with a composite brick stack with a modern cap at the left rear.

The house is two storeys tall and has a cellar, presenting a five-window range. The windows are 19th-century mullion and transom casements with leaded lights and some glazing bars, all set beneath simple weatherhoods and segmental arches. A central 20th-century porch leads to an 18th-century door with six fielded panels and an overlight featuring glazing bars. Flanking this are 19th-century six-over-six sash windows with moulded heads, also under segmental arches, and there is a storey band running across the front. The left side of the building has a returned storey band, with a 20th-century six-over-six sash and a 19th-century casement window above.

At the rear, there is a wing built of 18th-century brickwork, which incorporates 17th-century timber-framing in the rear gable. The roof here is covered with Welsh slate, and there are 19th-century lights with glazing bars, as well as a 20th-century light in an altered opening beneath a gauged brick flat arch, with a string course above.

Inside, the second floor features three plank doors, one of which has a balustered overlight. On the first floor, there are two 18th-century four-panel doors with architraves and a simple fire surround. The ground floor includes skirting, a four-panel door, a fireplace with panelling, a chamfered ceiling beam, and two corner fireplaces, one of which has a range. The cellar is stone-lined.
