Description

The Church of St Nicholas is a parish church dating to circa 1842, designed by Thomas Duckham of Hereford. It is constructed of dressed and ashlar sandstone with a Welsh slate roof. The church comprises a nave, aisles, and a west tower. The south front features seven lancet windows with hood mouldings and lattice-glazing, set between ashlar buttresses. A central stone-coped ashlar porch, also with buttresses and a studded plank door, provides access. The east front is characterized by a three-light lancet window containing stained glass, alongside a trefoil opening and a cross finial. Octagonal spur-buttresses with pyramid finials are present, along with single lancets to the aisles. A single-storey vestry is located to the right. The tower has a west entrance, corner buttresses, blind lancets and bullseye lights, bands, paired lancets with louvres, and a corbelled cornice to its parapet. The aisles also feature blind lancets. Extending from the vestry, northeast for approximately 30 metres, are cast-iron railings incorporating a gate, both with acorn finials and supported by an ashlar-coped dwarf wall.
