Description

The properties at 26 and 28 Barton Road are a group of mid-19th century houses constructed of brick, with a Welsh slate roof featuring a gable to the left. They have a three-story and cellar layout, and a six-window front. The windows are 6/6 sashes set within segmental arches on the first floor, similar sashes above, and 8/8 sashes with segmental arches to the left. Decorative bargeboards with scalloped edges, acorn pendants, and finials are present on the gables. The right-hand entrances feature six-panel doors, partially glazed at Nos. 24 and 26, with panelled reveals, and are sheltered by moulded flat hoods supported on scrolled brackets and fluted pilasters. A return side has a margin-glazed staircase light with an 8/8 sash, set under a segmental arch, along with an 8/8 sash above a 6/6 sash, and a scalloped eaves-board.

The interior of No. 24 includes a dogleg staircase with stick balusters, turned newels, and a moulded swan-neck rail. The second floor has four-panel doors with architraves, a fireplace with a hobgrate. The first floor features six-panel doors and architraves, a picture rail, skirting boards, and an inserted 19th-century fireplace. On the ground floor, there are lined, fluted reveals to the hall arch, six-panel doors with architraves, a picture rail, cornice, panelled risers, shutters, and window architraves. A marbled slate tiled fireplace is also present, along with a half-glazed door with a chamfered head. The cellar features plank doors, stone and brick lining, and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
