Description
This is a barn, likely built in the late 18th century to early 19th century, located about 20 yards south of Highnam Farmhouse. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble and features a timber frame with weatherboards and a tiled roof. The barn has five bays that are set at right angles to the farmhouse. It has a high plinth with two ventilation slits on either side of the opposed cart entries, below an upper zone and gables that are weatherboarded. The frame consists of one panel high to the wall-plate, and inside, there are raking strut trusses. The attached cow shelter, which connects the barn to Highnam Farmhouse, has a rubble rear wall, two posts supporting the front, and a tiled roof. Together, these buildings create an upland farm group with Highnam Farmhouse, and they are included for their group value.
