Description

12 and 14 Belmont Road is a house that has been converted into flats. It dates back to the 15th century, with additions from the 17th century and alterations made in the 19th century. The building was restored in 1977. It features a timber-frame and brick construction, with a slate roof on the front pitch and gable to the right. The rear and right-hand pitches have plain tiles from the 19th and 20th centuries. There is a brick ridge stack and a stone stack with a brick chimney on the right side. The building has a T-shaped plan and is two storeys high, with a four-window range that includes 2, 3, and 4-light 20th-century casements. The rightmost window is set in brick beneath a sham timber-framed gable. The ground floor has similar, taller casements, with the rightmost under a brick segmental arch and the left in a small outshut. The entrance on the left features a 20th-century part-glazed door beneath a timber-frame and brick porch, which has a lattice-work gable and a 4-centred arch lintel with a 20th-century shield dated 1624. The right side of the building has additional 20th-century casements and a door beneath a flat hood supported by scrolled brackets. The left side showcases massive jointed posts with cusped braces. The rear includes 20th-century doors, windows, and flat-roofed extensions. Inside, No. 2 has exposed mutilated 16th and 17th-century timber-framing and ceiling beams. No. 3 features a moulded ceiling beam and post, a 20th-century stick baluster stair, exposed framing with curved braces and a chamfered post, and billets with capitals and a jowled post.
