Description
Rudge End Cottage is an 18th-century house situated in Fownhope. It is a timber-framed building with wattle-and-daub infill, a sandstone plinth and stack, and a pantiled roof. The main two-bay section is aligned east/west and faces south, with a west gable-end stack and a bread oven. A further bay is located to the east, distinguished by a lower roof level and weatherboard cladding.
The cottage has two storeys. Two two-light glazing bar casement windows and two similar windows are positioned on either side of the entrance, which features a canopy and a ledged door. Much of the original timber framing is intact, with framing originally consisting of three square panels from sill to wall-plate, with an added square panel creating a four-panel to two-bay configuration. The building is listed as a complete and largely unaltered example of late timber-framed construction.
