Description
Tudor House is a late 16th-century timber-framed building located on the east side of High Street. It features close-set studding with plaster infilling and stands three storeys tall with a cellar. The top floor overhangs and is supported by a moulded bressummer. On the top floor, there are two casement windows, while the first floor has a small bay window, all fitted with modern leaded panes. The ground floor has a large early 20th-century shop front with a cornice and fascia. The building is topped with a slate roof that has gabled ends.
At the rear, there is a timber-framed wing with square plaster-filled panels, believed to have been the old banqueting hall. This wing is accessed via a passage on the south side of the house, which features a cobbled path and an old brick arch. An old stone doorway leading into the banqueting hall has been brought from another location. Additionally, there is an early 18th-century brick wing at the back. Inside, the shop has moulded ceiling beams, and there is an oak post that extends from the cellar to the roof. The building is said to have been the King's Arms Inn before the coaching era. The Market House and other listed buildings on the east side of High Street create a cohesive group.
