Description

The stables, located 15 meters north-east of Langstone Court, date from around 1700 and are built with English bond brickwork and ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan and features a wide doorway at the eastern end. It stands two storeys high and includes a string course and rusticated quoins. There are three windows: a central 2-light glazing bar casement on the first floor, flanked by traces of blocked openings, and stone mullioned windows on the ground floor beside a square-headed doorway with a ledged door.

On the east side, there is a moulded elliptical-arched doorway and a pointed arched window with Y-tracery on the first floor. The gable features two rows of pigeon holes and a central hexagonal clock cupola with ogee capping and a weathervane. Inside, there are six wooden stalls along the north side, which have decorative Tudor arched openings. These echo the finial on the newel of the backstairs at Langstone Court. The interior also includes splat balusters on a dog-leg staircase. The stables are part of the north enclosure of garden gates, gate piers, and a wall that encloses the garden to the east of Langstone Court. The building is graded II* due to its significant interior features.
