Gates, Gate Piers And Walls Enclosing Garden East Of Langstone Court

The gates, gate piers, and walls enclosing the garden east of Langstone Court date from the early 18th century. They feature wrought iron gates, an overthrow, and railings, alongside a low rubble wall that flanks ashlar piers. The remaining walls are built in English bond and ramp up to the piers. There is a gateway at the eastern end, creating a U-shaped garden enclosure that is completed by stables to the north side. A mid-19th century opening has been inserted to the west of the south wall. The pair of plain gates has close-set rails and short dog-rails, and they are flanked by decorative hinge panels with an overthrow above. The rusticated gate piers have moulded bases and capping topped with ball finials. The low wall is adorned with spear-headed railings and standards featuring a twisted pattern, with moulded capping and urn finials at the corners.
