Description

Langstone Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse range that creates an irregular courtyard and is located to the north-west of Langstone Court, with which it formerly interlocked. The core of the building dates back to the 16th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 17th century and mid-19th century, along with further changes in the 20th century. The farmhouse features a timber-framed core, sandstone rubble refacing, and slate roofs.

The earlier south wing has additional wings to the north, east, and west, forming a central courtyard, and it adjoins Langstone Court to the south-east. The main entrance is towards the center of the south wing, with another entrance located at the center of the west wing. The structure includes a large axial stack, a gable end stack, and a lateral stack on the south wing. It is single storey with an attic, featuring three windows in half dormers, two 2-light 20th-century glazing bar casements, and a 3-light casement on the east side. There is a small window below the eaves towards the center, French casements, and two 3-light windows on the ground floor, along with a doorway to the left of the lateral stack that has a plain hood and a 20th-century glazed door.

On the west return, the fenestration is irregular, with a general pattern of 1:1:3:1 windows, including two in the gable ends. The windows consist of 2-light casements, a glazing bar sash window on the ground floor of the right (south) gable end, and a 3-light wooden mullioned window on the ground floor of the left gable end, which is to the left of a doorway with a cambered head and a ledged door. The interior has been altered but includes a large open fireplace. The section of the south wing adjoining Langstone Court originally formed the earlier core of the house. Although it is interlinked with Langstone Court and likely incorporates two bays of the earliest structure, Langstone Court Farmhouse stands as a distinct entity and appears to have served as the agricultural wing of the larger house, still forming an irregular service courtyard.
