Description

This is a barn located about 25 yards north of Coldbrook, likely built in the late 17th century to early 18th century, with a 19th-century extension and alterations. The structure features a timber frame with sandstone rubble and brick, topped with a roof made of pantiles and corrugated iron. It consists of seven plus three bays, oriented roughly east to west, with the three western bays being a later addition. Inside, there are two threshing floors, one located in the third bay from the west and the other in the fifth bay. The south elevation is obscured by 20th-century lean-to extensions. The west gable includes a late 19th-century patterned ventilator panel made of brick, while the east gable has one vent slit at the top and four additional vent slits below. The interior features a wall-frame on the south wall that is three panels high from the sill to the wall-plate. The two trusses on the west side of each threshing floor have two posts extending from the ties to the collars, and the tie-beams are supported by superimposed posts that are pegged and separated by rails, which extend only a short distance across the floors. The remaining trusses are supported by triple angle struts. Coldbrook itself is not included in this listing.
